Sharp

I always feel bad when I can't sympathize with the protagonist. It's like a failing to the author- you made this character for me to empathize with and I just can't. Thackeray, Amelia Sedley is a little priggish fool, and even though you want me to look beyond that to see her as something innocent and lovely, I can't. I fail Vanity Fair, even though I keep on rereading bits of it trying to read it as you meant it. But can we still be friends? I fell in love with Becky, and things could get awkward if we can't at least be polite.
